Hey Ted,
I've gotten in the habit of creating a panel/pallet drawing when a board is
going to be palletized. For
example I'm now working on a board 16.5" x 11.2" (by the way thanks for all
the responses I received
for "2 boards on a panel" question!) Since this board will not be
palletized I don't supply a panel/pallet
drawing. However the last board I completed measured 4.4" x 5.1". For this
board I supplied a
pallet/panel drawing. The reason I do this is to try an optimize the panel
space and help ensure a
manufacturable product.
On the 4.4 x 5.1 board I ended up calculating 6 boards per pallet then 2
pallets per 18" X 21" panel.
On my drawing you'll see an 18 X 21 board with the two pallets dimensioned
out. You'll also see each
individual board dimensioned inside the pallet/panel.
Before I release this drawing I sit down with the board house and the
assembly house and go over
the drawing to ensure I didn't screw up! It's really not to bad once you do
a few. However when the
deadline approaches it is one more thing that can be a pain in the but!
As for dimensioning HASL - No clue?!?
Hope this helps. If you have any question please write.

Subject: [DC] PANALIZATION
Hi All,
I need your in-the-trenches opinions on panalization dwgs. An engineer at
another plant of ours, wants us to include a panalization dwg with our pcb
fab dwg to "reduce cost and provide complete design integrity against a
vendor incorrectly scoring or putting perforating tabs in the wrong place".
I think of this as methodising a process that I don't have to, but I may be
wrong. It has also been suggested that we provide dimensions for HASL
instead of using a min/max note, again I have never been bit by this
problem, I believe that if you have a good team relationship with your
suppliers you both make money, thanks.
