And there it is - why I called it a marketing feature.

Altium has it.

We need it.

I get it, I know why Mentor felt the need to match what Altium did.  Most of the purchase decisions are made by management, not users, so those really cool 3D demos are great for sales.  It's harder to make a sales pitch that says you can do this if you have someone else's software, too.  And tougher for companies that don't already have MCAD, but those are few.  So in order to sell enough to fund development, the development gets directed away from the most efficient method.

Last I heard (and it's been a while), Mentor IS working on improving the interface to do away with the CircuitWorks interim step.  We might have that by now if the developers didn't have to spend their time working on importing MCAD into PADS.
