Dave,

Just my thoughts and keeping it short, but if the drawings do not already have the standards, workmanship, handling, and general information, than this would into a document "Workmanship and Handling for XXX Corp" that would be applicable for all product to be made. This document would cover the applicable standards, ESD, acceptability and any other general requirements. All other design specific items would be conveyed (as you have stated) on the cognizant drawing.

This document would then need to be flowed down to the Turn-key provider as part of the procurement documentation and would then be binding.

That is what I would do from the position that you seem to be in, and from my view would be the easiest method. I don't think you would wish to update every drawing with those requirements.

My personal view is that all drawings should have the specs and reqs called out from the get go, this way no one down the line has to try to determine the original design intent, methodolgy or criteria that was part of the design.

Take care,

-Jeffrey

Subject: [DC] Contract Manufacture Assembly Notes

I am in the process of reviewing Assembly specifications for a company that
is moving towards turnkey contract manufacture of most products.

There are 2 formats I've seen previous customers use:

1. A single Assembly drawing with all notes and specifications
2. A company specification which calls out the generic information (IPC, ESD
handling, etc.) combined with and Assembly drawing which contains product
specific items

Looking for feedback from the DC community ... What method do you use? What
do you see the pros/cons of each method? Do you have sample standard notes
that you use?

Thanks,
Dave
