What do they mean merge the layers??
Are they talking about there are separate files for each layer or after
they import the file they get a number of sub "layers" from one file.
The latter is normal.

Could it be just viewer related handling of Allegro RS274X output?
Simplest fix would be to identify which layers should be turned on at
the
same time to obtain desired artwork. Maybe you can work with boardhouse
using netmeeting or other sharing software, or have them take best guess
and send you sample jpegs for approval?

I had several small designs in OrCAD PCB Editor, which is really Cadence
Allegro Lite, that I wanted to merge onto a single PCB. I ham-handedly
exported them as subdrawings and then imported them into a single file.
The Gerber output looks fine in PentaLogix ViewMate, BUT the boardhouse
says there are many layers within my artwork layers that require
merging.
Question 1: What is a good program to merge the layers? What is a good
Gerber editor that allows minor edits to artwork and allows artwork from
different sources to be cut and pasted?
