Patrick,

How would you handle a situation where you have layer identification areas
on the board edges with negative planes? We are having a problem with
getting the 274X to leave the etched layer number in the voided area. It'
keeps the void, but wipes out the layer identification number.
We are being told that it is an Allegro problem, not a fab house's problem.
What say you?

Thanks,

Deac Descoteaux

Subject: Re: [DC] Merging layers; basic Gerber editor

I want to clear thing up a bit, the way Allegro outputs Gerbers in the
RS274X format, it is fully compliant with the format, and it works great
for using Positive copper shapes for planes, really brings down the
files size.
What is really happening, is that each layer that contains positive
polygons is made up of composite layers, this is done by the use of
aperture MACRO function on RS274X.
If you Fab house cannot read fully compliant RS274X gerbers I suggest
you change Fab houses now.
All FAB houses I have used in the past had no issues with RS274X Here in
the US and Overseas ASIA.
By the way IF you use Mentor Graphics pads, it also has the option of
using aperture Macros. Best way to output RS274X
I would suggest if using Allegro to output ODB++ it is superior to
RS274X in terms, that the netlist is already embedded with the CAD Data.
Iwish Pads had that feature.
