Boy, sounds like you're in Detroit or something ;-)

You folks that think he's kidding have never worked with the
UAW..........

We could all specialize! I can place parts but per the union guidelines,
I
can't route. You can route but DRC's can only be run by someone else,
who
can't correct them, etc... and anyway, I'm on break right now, but I
promise I'll place yer parts when I'm good and ready.... IF a DRC
operator
and a routing specialist are present. Sorry, it's union rules.... Oops.
Already placed my quota for today. I'm going to the restroom for a few
hours. Please leave the light off if you come in. I'll clock out when my
shift is over. Remember, starting tomorrow a DRC corrector and a master
document generator must also be present or I can't place parts.... Did
you
just leave a fingerprint on my screen?... I'm filing a grievance!

Mike, I have one question for you:

Has the UAW prevented loss of American automotive jobs?

Neither would a PCB Design union :)

Not many managers are going to like this but...

If there was a Union for designers, I would join because:
a. they would work to protect my job here in the usa (call me
xenophobic if you want)
b. ... your ideas on how a union would help Designers Council members
(not the Designers Counsel itself) go here ...

This Union would have a logo/graphic "bug" much like the printers union,
that indicated the design was done by a union member, which could be
inconspicuously placed on any board.

Michael Howell
