Ah, I see what you mean...real pickle, eh?

Never had to print the output, I would just generate what I needed side-by-side on the monitor.

Could just purchase the librarian for, what, around £270, direct from the software house? Unless of course Dynamix has rights to sell it in the UK, then probably more...then print screen.

Call me silly (everybody else does), but couldn't we just take the formulas and numbers from the 7351 standard and just plug them into the 782 calculator that is in Excel(tm) format? Or else create a basic spreadsheet that would do the job for you? Wait, that's what George suggested...Hmmmm.

Or else wait on the "free" online version...

Devil's in the details, eh?

Happy Friday,
Roger "right smack dab in the middle" Stoops

(I can't complain, I have the LP Calculator that does okay for me. Also have the old 782 spreadsheet. And one of our EMS providers has their own land pattern requirements. As long as my handlers are happy, I'm happy...)

Subject: RE: [DC] Propaganda Rant & IPC-7351

I asked if there was a single user license that would allow me to print out what I see.
That's all I want, a single PC with it on & the ability to print out the dimension info to be able to make the footprint on the same PC.

There is not.

It's a site license with the librarian that i'm told I'd need.

No ta.

rant, rant...

Curious... why would you compare a single user license cost to a site license cost? Wouldn't a single user license work as well as it did before?

Regards,
Roger

Coming quite late into this also...

Having looked on the IPC site for this std, it appears that there is a document available (that turns out to be remarkably similar to the front of IPC-SM782A) and that the footprint dimension info itself is only available from the LP viewer.

I have just installed the latest version of the LP viewer.

Yes it looks good, has many components in, even SMT electrolytic caps which I would find useful.

However, I am unable to print out the dimensions that I see on screen.
I used to be able to do that with the online 782 calculator. :(

OK, fair do's I think, what if I get my employers to purchase the std & perhaps the next level of the program that will allow me to print it.

So I ring up Dynamix, a UK supplier of IPC stuff.

It would appear that I would be paying £2161.80+vat for a site license for this.

WTF!

Why has this gone from a £90 std (non members cost) to well over 2 grand?
This is ridiculous, I can certainly see that I will certainly NOT be using this std over the 782 no matter what Nick says the improvements are.

Matthew Lamkin.
