According to the ANSI list of ref des's, a "light-emiting solid-state
device" should be a DS. A ref des is not supposed to be an abbreviation of the
component type, but a distinct, short, representation of that component
type.
I know that all of us use what we've learned through OJT or what the
company standard is. When there is no company standard or that standard
conflicts with good communication, I go to the ANSI standard. It is a more
accepted & known world wide.
