Kitty,
The problem in using thicker copper is that the pattern is etched and
etching is not limited to one axis so to get an average trace width you
have to start with a larger pattern so the traces need greater spacing
to allow etching to be even.
Copper spreading or shifting is caused by pressure and the flow of the
pre-prig, they make low flow but they can cause other problems with
vias.
