We really need help with the organization and running of this chapter. Please consider volunteering your time to keep this chapter alive. Email Rich Hagan ([log in to unmask]). PACIFIC NORTHWEST (Portland) Next meeting: Jan. 20 Topic: Annual meeting/elections Location: Mentor Graphics (Wilsonville) The December Executive Board meeting was held at Mentor. Attending were President Jim Yohe (senior PCB design contractor), Secretary/Treasurer Lynette Hawkins (Tektronix), Nomination Committee Chairperson Mia Liedelmeyer (Tektronix), Geoff Schofield (Mentor), and Don Tabor (senior CAD/PCB librarian contractor). Thanks goes to Geoff for the meeting facilities for this meeting and our Annual meeting, and also the pizza! We reviewed our goals and status of each item. We officially adopted the bylaws (as published on our Web site). We reviewed the agenda for the Annual Meeting Jan. 20, and discussed the March meeting. We are undecided on the topic for the March meeting but will continue to speak with people in order to develop more ideas. Mia and Lynette put together a list of eligible candidates for our elections at our Annual Meeting. (Thanks to both for their help and the preparation of the ballot.) We have one person listed for president, vice president, secretary/treasurer (a combined office at this time), and public relations. Gary Ferrari will be our guest speaker. Watch the Pacific Northwest Chapter Web page for directions and updates. SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND December marked our annual holiday get together. We had a special meal coupled with some door prizes. You would be surprised at how technical information seems to flow over an informal dinner. Summit Solutions International, an Indianapolis-based business consulting company specializing in challenges faced within the EDA community, sponsored the December meeting. The 1999 program will be finalized in accordance with our recent survey. The survey indicated the chapter wants to start a design certification study group. We will finalize creation of the group, meeting times, and locations. The group hopes to culminate its efforts taking the certification exam in the March/April timeframe. Since the exam will be administered locally we encourage all interested to sign up for the study group, which will begin meeting in January. SOUTH JERSEY Next meeting: Jan. 12 Topic: IPC design specs Location: Formation Inc. (Moorestown) We're in the midst of reviewing the new IPC design (IPC-2221 and IPC-2222) and fabrication (IPC-6012A) standards. SUSQUEHANNA REGION SRC would like to know what you would like to see at upcoming meetings. Currently, we have tentative meetings planned to discuss impedance control, assembly, and possibly a tour of a local assembly company. Forward ideas to Rick Adams at Lockheed Martin (607-770-2467; [log in to unmask]). We have a number of members interested in designer certification. The chapter is considering holding workshops based on the IPC Designer Certification Study Guide. If interested, email Rick. SYRACUSE The PCB Design department at Philips Broadband Networks Inc. is interested in forming a local chapter to expand our skills and knowledge. The group is also in the early stages of obtaining IPC designer certification. If you have an interest in being part of this chapter, please contact John Tafe at Philips (100 Fairgrounds Dr., Manlius, NY 13104; 315-682-9105 ext. 2470; [log in to unmask]). If the response looks promising we will schedule a meeting. Please pass this message on to anyone you think may be interested. The more cross-functional our membership (design, engineering, fabrication, and assembly) the better.
