I'm sorry to hear you're not back to work yet Mitch... I hope something
breaks loose soon for you. Call Dave Catanzaro over at Employment Strategies
(858) 278-9225, I think they were looking for a Cadence guy in the last few
weeks.

I'm not aware of the IPC offering a deeper discount to unemployed designers
than the current one available to all member designers for $595.00 instead
of $795.00 for non-members.

I am however interested in seeing some sort of on-line training courses
developed that would allow designers the chance to attend classes they
otherwise would not be able to because of travel issues.

I was reading on-line about internet classes that are available from the
ARRL for Ham operators that want to further their education and I want to
ask if our PCB design curriculums could be administrated in such a
fashion...

Here's a link to the ARRL site... check it out and see if something like
that could not be used by the DC as a way to get more educational content
out to the designers.

http://www.arrl.org/cce/courses.html

I wish we could have a program for unemployed designers... I don't thing the
IPC has the money to fund it based upon what I have heard at the meetings. I
think if that's a program we want to have them fund, we should make our
voices heard ringing in the halls of IPC management so they know our desire
to help our fellow members get back to work. They are a non-profit
corporation and get grants from the government to fund PCB related
development and the like... I think they have the means to get funding from
the government to help designers get education to get back to work too...
The State of California does fund some of that sort of thing... In fact, I
think Mary Suggden may know where to get more info on that sort of
funding...

Best of luck in your endeavors,

Bill Brooks - KG6VVP

Does anyone know if the workshop and Exams are free to displaced workers?
i.e. 'outta-job' design folks? Like the Cadence and/or Mentor tools
training is. I'm still outta work since being 'displaced' (outsourced)
from Intel, San Diego.

Please let me know. I could make to Orange County for the April session.

Thanks.
