Dear Steve,

I know that this is not an answer to the question of how to get IPC-D-356
data out of Boardstation, but I can inform you that within a few months
Mentor will be distributing an ODB++ output to the entire Boardstation
customer-base, as part of a general software up-issue. The output processor
will be free of charge.

ODB++ contains the netlist data, as well as all the graphical and drilling
data, thus making not only IPC-D-356 unnecessary, but Gerber and Excellon
also. Any of your manufacturers who have a CAM system which can read ODB++
will be able to accept this data and engineer the board for fabrication, and
assembly (since ODB++ also contains the component reference designators and
locations). At the same time, you will probably be doing your suppliers a
favour since the time taken to read an ODB++ job is usually a lot less than
the time to read all the alternative separate files and reverse-engineer
them within the CAM database.

If you want further advice on this from people at Valor, we will be pleased
to help. It will not cost you, your company, or your suppliers' anything.

Best wishes,

Julian Coates
