Ray,
You did not state what performance you are looking for, I will guess you
are talking about EMI emissions.
In general 45s are the shorter trace therefore the signal length is
better.
Inside ICs most are runs are right angle turns so length is most
important for reflection and ringing.
Return paths(current loops) need to be short, short is better because
the pulses can not use the path as an antenna.
Antennas need to be fractions of the pulses propagation length to have
any strength to the radiated signal.
Arcs do not make good directional antennas while lines do, that is why
you will see them used.
In general Power needs copper(planes) to not have voltage drop and
voltage needs isulation(spaceing) to not short circuit.

At what point does an arch miter have better performance than linear
miter?
And where can I read up on this subject.
I don't have access to anything like P-Spice.
I generally design to high speed digital signals.
