You forgot step 5, the zener diode.  All I will say about this is
check in your research books on how to use a zener diode as a
'regulator'.  (Get that term correct, the 4 diodes in a bridge is
called a 'rectifier'.  These terms sound similar, but they perform
_completely_ different functions.)

Quick request to all people here, please edit out all parts of the
original message that you are not refering to.  Otherwise threads
become monsterous in size.  (especially since the list-server adds 10
lines of list-sig, in a forum where sigs are usually requested to be
limited to 3 or 4 lines. Ok, so my sig is a couple lines longer due to
my random tag-line...)  I remember doing some research, and printing
out messages that had the answer that I needed.  Unfortunately because
of that I ended up getting 4 or 5 copies of my entire original
request, and 3 or 4 copies of the first line of responces.  Quite a
waste of paper...  >:-(
