        Hi,

Just a reminder that next Tuesday is the chapter meeting
for the Boston area IPC Designer's Council, in Waltham at
the Four Points Hotel at 6pm.

In 1976 the last major update of the widely known IPC and
MIL spec current carrying and conductor spacing charts was
published. This was an era when only the military and the
most esoteric of system builders could justify multilayer
boards. They were not practical for mainstream equipment.

In fact, at that time, military boards often did not use
vias (unsupported holes). When they did allow them, they
had to be out from under components so as to allow inspec-
        tion, touch up, and repair.

Needs for high currents have increased dramatically since
then, along with the community's ability to reliably create
complex boards. The IPC has been examining an update to
the "ancient scriptures" of current carrying on PCBs. Find
out how multiple planes, fine geometries, and large groups
        of high current circuits behave.

Or do you want to keep using 1970's references? Do your
boards really have enough room on them for that?

Email an RSVP mailto:[log in to unmask] with a subject
of "RSVP IPC/DC" or phone Judy Horn at 781 942 7471. Or
ask us for another copy of the formal announcement.

Stay 'current' for only $15 (members) or $20 (non-members),
and a couple hours of your time. You'll probably save that
and more on your next high-power board. Food/soft drinks
are included, and there's a bar down the hall besides.

        Best regards,
--
