I'm sure this has happened in some company's in the US but my experience
was the reverse: I was recently employed in R&D by the Australian arm of
a US global telecommunications company. In downsizing, the company areas
outside the US got hit hard whilst within the US relatively little was
downsized. No great complaints: why would one expect a US centric
company not to do this! This has evened up since as the US side is
hurting with all the further layoff's they've decided to do since then.
