Allen:
I used to do single sided boards for automotive. Our modules had to survive a 10g shock test (like 10 cycles if I remember correctly). You do NOT need plated-thru holes. You do need a bigger hole (as others have mentioned.)

Subject: [DC] Concerns about Single Sided Board
I have a single sided board that our manufacturing department has an issues with. The concern is "All holes for all parts must be plated through for connection strength".
This is a very simple board. Trying to keep the cost down.
Comments???
Thanks,
Allen Maddox, CID+
