Zuken software (CR5000, Cadstar) uses "component" for the physical
sum of pads, silkscreen, assembly etc, "symbol" for that ugly thing
on a schematic, "part" for the sum of "symbol", "Component" and all
attributes and other stuff, bundled in the library, and our preferred
"footprint" means s.th. completely else, they use it for specific c&p-
enabled or automatically applicable fanout patterns.... :-))
