It depends on where you get your boards made... 

But it has been my experience here in the San Diego area that most board
shops that we deal with have long since changed over to the LPI method of
applying the component legends. The silk screening process does not have the
same level of fine feature resolution and registration to the board pattern
that the LPI affords the board manufacturer. If you require smaller text and
thinner lines they get very good results from the white LPI. And as far as I
know, there is no substantial cost differential between the processes.
