to shorten up LED you could maybe use just 'LD' for light diode or 'GD' for glow diode

I have been following this discussion (along with Dieter Bergman) of what are the reference designators for LEDs.
IPC-2612-1 is in the revision process right now. Below is the current list of reference designators in Appendix A of that document.
Are there other items that should be included in the revision, e.g. a standard ref des for LEDs?
Per the current format a two letter ref des would be preferred.
