                            Vendor Qualification

The Greater Boston Chapter of the IPC Designer's Council will
hold its next meeting on Thursday, Jan 29th at 6pm at the
Best Western TLC Hotel at Totten Pond Road in Waltham MA.

Gary Ferrari will update us on how best to survey and qualify
partners in the fabrication and assembly community. These
days, increasing design complexity and ever more difficult
delivery and pricing pressures require careful supplier qual-
ification and matching of your supplier pool with your product
goals. Supplier choices and capabilities reflect directly on
your design efforts, and can quickly tilt your project toward
success or failure. Establishing good supplier relationships
is key to success in today's markets.

Ferrari, owner of Ferrari Technical Services, consults in DFM,
technical support and customized training. He has chaired
a number of IPC technical committees, including cornerstones
such as the Printed Board Design Committee and its IPC-D-275
and IPC-2221/2222 Subcommittees. Authoring many technical
articles, Ferrari is a frequent presenter at conferences and
spearheaded the IPC's Designers Certification Program, which
has trained and recognized more than 2000 designers to date.
In 1990 he received the IPCs President's Award for his many
contributions to the industry and went on to cofound and hold
a past executive directorship of this association.

Given the nature of this topic, consider bringing along some-
one from management or procurement who has been "surprised"
by vendor "performance" in the past. To this end, members
can bring a guest at the member cost - let's end the mystery
of fabrication and assembly qualification and outsourcing!

        Agenda:

        6:00 pm, Arrivals and Pizza, $15/Member, $20/Non-member
6:45 Jeff Seeger - Chapter Update
7:00 Gary Ferrari, Choosing The Right Vendor

        Directions:

The Best Western TLC Hotel in Waltham is located at exit 27A
off route 95/128, proceed East on Totten Pond Rd, the hotel
        is on the left. http://www.appliedcad.com/~jseeger/BW.jpg

        RSVP's needed:

Please RSVP by sending an email to [log in to unmask] with
the subject "RSVP IPC/DC" by Tuesday morning, Jan. 27th. We
need this for the food order.

        President's Note:

I'm very pleased to finally have a new meeting season started
and very much hope you can attend. The chapter has much to
offer and the field has never needed this venue more than it
does today. Don't be stuck in a rut, get involved and keep
your skills up to date! Your current employer needs you to
be at your best, or your next one will for sure!

At this meeting I'll be announcing the next session or two,
but would love your help. This can be as simple as asking
for a topic you'd like to see or as deep as helping out as a
        volunteer.

        Mission:

Design is not called "do" for a reason. To design in today's
PWB environment implies adding value while giving electronics
a physically manifestable form. In order to add value one
must have a full grasp of the issues and stakeholders, often
helping to mediate compromises among those interest groups.

The Greater Boston Chapter of the IPC Designer's Council is
trying to bring those stakeholders, from every discipline,
to show you their problems and solutions so you can add to
        your arsenal of knowledge.

Your help and participation would be most appreciated, how
        about getting involved!

        Thanks and regards,
--
