Try Zuken E3, it has all of the items you requested, is a LOT better than
SolidWorks Electrical and quite affordable. For more information on E3,
contact John Molloy at [log in to unmask]

Subject: Re: [DC] cable design and documentation

I'm curious, how many folks agree that system cabling is a nightmare?
It seems to me that nobody really has a good cable design and documentation
tool ... is the only solution the excel spreadsheet and manual drafting?

I think the ultimate tool would have a library of every connector on earth,
all the wire sizes and options available from Alpha, Belden, etc... the
database would contain the pins, sockets, features for keying, locking, EMI,
shielding, color coding, marking, labeling, etc... recommended tools for
crimping, soldering, IDC mounting, terminations... and I search it based
upon the needs of the circuits that are being connected, like amperage,
voltage, temperature, environmental hazards, flexibility, safety agency
requirements... you know? I should be able to select the right connector
system, and drag the symbols onto a sheet and hook them up and get a nice
pictorial and schematic with signal names and be able to check it in a
system environment, export it to SolidWorks and check cable lengths, routing
paths, mounting hardware, strain reliefs, cable ways and breakout into the
equipment that needs to be connected... The BOM or parts list should then
automatically export out of the design with all the required equipment and
cable lengths, strip lengths, and drawings for production cable tooling...
shall I dream on?

Sheeze... what an opportunity for a CAD company to develop a piece of system
level software to solve this task... please... simplify it for me... where
is the EASY button?
Lol

Have a great day. :)
