Larry,
The IPC is currently in the release cycle of the rewritten IPC-D-325,
Documentation Requirements for Printed Boards, Assemblies and support
drawings. This standard recommends the proper drawing callouts.
In addition, calling out to manufacture in accordance with IPC-RB-276 is not
quite enough information. You ust also call out the process and final finish.
To address your inspection requirement; the specification suggest demonstrated
SPC in lieu some of the testing. a critical part of the specification (which
I think is not clear enough) is that the purcahser must specify the sampling
plan requried. The zero based plan shown in the text is an example and not
necessarily what you desire. An acceptable sampling plan could even be 100%!
In any event, without specifying a sampling plan, the manufacture can sample
any way he wants to.
