All the features are TBD. The main focus will be on the calculations - the
free version may be limited to simple calculations; no dynamic graphics, no
output to CAD tool.
Estimated time - we're shooting for this summer. At this point we're
focusing on ironing out bugs in our Wizards that export to Allegro,
Boardstation, and Pantheon, and started exploring the 'online' notion for a
week or two. Over the next several weeks, we plan to increase our focus on
this.
For those who have been following up with local Designers Council events -
for several months we worked with a few DC chapters and gave free LP
Calculator licenses (fully functional, with dynamic graphics, etc) as door
prizes, all in an effort to fire up interest in the 7351 and the local
chapter, even paid for pizza on occasion. Those who have been following us
for a year or so, you may recall when ALL the libraries we had were
available for free. Giving stuff out for free certainly is not new for us,
but we still need to make a living.

Thanks for announcing plans for a free version! That will be huge for quite
a few people I'm sure. Any idea of when it will be released? Will it have a

Any other things we could do now that we have some momentum?
I'm still willing to work on something -I've been toying with making a
calculator for estimating a board: will everything fit, how difficult will
it be, how long could it take, -etc. this could be linked into the land
calculator's courtyards... hmmmm... maybe have some check off boxes for
different component types and qty then some boxes for board size and special
criteria (we have huge isolation zones)...
Any bites?

Wow, that announcement is stunningly unexpected!
I would have never thought you would consider
that, but yes I agree, what we were considering
was definitely a compromise.
My company will cheerfully pay PCBL for those
tools (we buy anything we can justify),
but I thought it was a cool idea to have a free
online tool that makes some sense out of 7351.
So if you are willing to publish a stripped down
online version, I'm sure the volunteers can find
other things to do, like hassle ThermalMan for a
simple freeware IPC-2152 trace width calculator
(grin)
think about it, hope to see it online by Monday!

platforms and the discussions started here some time ago, over the past
couple weeks we explored options for transferring the 'basic' 7351 LP
Calculator functions online - yes, for free. Even the basic functions of
the
7351 would still be a nice upgrade from the previous 782 tool. We will of
course, offer additional features for those who choose to get the licensed
version.
