Subject: [DC] Designers Council needing help

Just wanted to broadcast a message to as many committed board designers
as I
can.

The Designers Council is facing something of a crisis, in the sense that
there is so much to do and only so many committed bodies to do it.
There's
just a few passionate members on the Executive Board trying to keep the
ball
rolling, and the Education Committee is in some disarray through lack of
enthusiasm for carrying some of our new training programs to a
successful
conclusion. We're all volunteers, with real jobs and families, and it's
hard
to maintain enthusiasm when resources are limited and progress is slow,
and
without the support of a larger volunteer work force.

So three things:

1) Stoke up the fire in the belly, get passionate about your own
career and the careers of any designer you know, and get involved. Many
hands make light work, so get into a high level network, contribute your
own
knowledge, learn from others, and generally enjoy the company of like
minded
souls doing good deeds.
2) Get yourself to PCB East in Manchester, New Hampshire this year
if
you can. It's an excellent program. The IPC will have a Standards booth
there - it's a great opportunity to meet some of the IPC folk, and to
spend
your standards voucher in a good cause.
3) Get yourself also to the Executive Board Governance meeting on
Sunday, October 9th at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester, NH. That's the
day
before PCB East starts with tutorials and workshops. You'll meet the
team,
you'll see how it operates, you'll have a chance to enter discussions,
and
you'll see how we handle the many problems we're facing. A good showing
will
energise us all, and give you the opportunity of a lifetime. Everyone is
welcome.

See you there, yes?

Chairman
IPC Designers Council Executive Board
