I use the same (Logitech thumball anyways), but looking at the vertical
mouse is making me think about carving a base for my trackball to hold
it at an angle like the VM.

And I've often thought about chopping off the keypad on my current
keyboard, and duplicating the keys I need on the X-keys, on the left.
