1) What is your Job title?
        PCB/IC Mask Designer III
2) Are you involved in PCB Design or some other activity - (please indicate)
PCB Design, PCB Design Validation, Automation support and
programming, Vendor Liaison
3) What type of boards do you create?
        Digital/Analog/RF test equipment
4) How large is a typical design team at your company?
        4 to 10
5) What is the duration of your typical design time?
        100 - 1000 Hrs
6) What percentage of the time spent is on Schematic Development?
        0% (EE Function)
7) What percentage of the time spent is on PCB Design or Layout
        85%
8) What percentage of the time spent is on Manufacturing support
        8%
9) What percentage of the time spent is on Signal Integrity analysis
        0% (EE function)
10) What percentage of the time spent is on Thermal/EMI
        2% (Majority EE/ME function)
11) How many boards are typically in your projects?
        3 - 12
12) How many FPGA's or ASIC's are used in your projects?
        1 - 25 ASIC
13) What is the average layer count of your PCB designs
        10-20 layers
14) What is the typical clock speed or frequency your designs operate at?
If I told you they'd shoot me (competition would love to hear it) :)
15) Do you consider your designs to be 'high speed'?
        Yes
16) Will you be doing much more, more, the same, less, or much less designs
next year?
        More
17) What CAD tool(s) do you use?
        Cadence/ProE/Valor
18) Do you plan on spending more, same or less on CAD tools next year?
        Same
19) Are Signal Integrity tools important to the success of your board
designs?
        Yes
20) Are you very satisfied, satisfied, or not satisfied with your design
tools?
        Mostly satisfied.
21) What does your CAD tool do Right? Or Wrong? What do you like about it
and not like about it.
        Good: Easily extendable,
            good general purpose tool,
good integration with signal integrity tools,
good interface with custom IC tools and IC packaging tools.
        Bad: RF design features nonexistent,
            rudimentary DFA support.

Opinion: A survey on PCB CAD tools in an engineering magazine is like a
survey of Film editing software in a magazine for Theater Owners. The
results are going to be deceiving
