Dear "Compliance Netters" --

On March 31, 1997, OSHA published a final rule in the Federal Register (62 FR 15324) that requires employers that have received a citation for OSH Act violations to certify that they have abated the hazardous condition for which they were cited and to inform affected employees of their abatement actions. The abatement procedures a specific employer must follow depend on the nature of the violations identified and the employer's abatement actions. The procedures for abatement range from no form (if violation immediately corrected) to a one-page form and additional documentation for the most serious violations.

This rule is designed to ensure that employers abate cited hazards.

The final rule is effective May 30, 1997

For more information, contact Bonnie Friedman, Office of Information and Consumer Affairs, OSHA, telephone (202) 219-8148.

Regards,

Holly Lynch
Director of EHS Programs, IPC
